Prayer

Aldo Rossi argues that the importance of ritual in its collective nature and its essential character as an element for preserving myth constitutes a key to understanding the meaning of monuments and, moreover, the implications of the foundations of the city. The site of Duomo reveals this aspect of the city of Milano by being in use as a ritual site since 335 AD, though the cathedral as we experience today started to be built in 1386, at the peak of the Gothic style of religious architecture. However, it went through the implementations of many architects in the course of time until the 20th century, and it became the place of many generations to pray in the city. It is in the heart of the city, it is the heart of the city from which everything radiates towards the outskirts today. It preserves its importance and its essence as the focus, and as the focus of the ritual site of almost two thousands of years. So long as the prayer ritual goes on, so will live this "solus locus" in the city.
